180 days and 1000 people

February 10th 2006

About the responsibility of a businessman with the KOČÍ a.s. representatives.

The construction company KOČÍ a.s. belongs to the most significant companies in this field in our region. It employs almost 200 people and is enlisted among the top ten biggest employers in Písek region. “As far as I expect that our employers have got 3 family members on average, so about six hundred people depend on the income from our company,” Ing. Radek Kočí, the director and the chairman of the board says. “ Besides a range of sub-contractors co-operate closely with us, mainly local entrepreneurs,” the vice chairman of the board and the deputy director Milan Švehla adds. “ I mean other app. four hundred workers from small firms in Písek and their family members. In conclusion it means almost one thousand people. To maintain all of them means restless effort to get new orders,” he adds. No wonder you can see signs with the notice “KOČÍ a.s. is constructing here” at many building sites in Písek and the surrounding. “Unfortunately, this fact often becomes the cause of criticism which worries us a lot,” Radek Kočí says, “If we look at the orders from the view of employment, we find out that work is never enough, even in the situation we do not know where my head swims…”

KOČÍ a.s. has started the year 2006 well comparing to last year. “Although it is winter and it is rather difficult period in construction business, we try hard for our employees to be able to work in relatively warm environment,” Milan Švehla explains, “These days we can only make it in the barracks in Bechyně and in hospital in Písek. We had to leave other sites temporary including the Malt house in the centre of Písek. Our employees either help on the construction mentioned above or they have some days off.” Our company provides a week off extra for the employees and it asserts this possibility especially during winter season annually. Nobody can think we save money. Our employees get one hundred per cent salary during the days off,” Mr.Švehla notices.

“The awareness there are so many people dependent on you, quality of your work, your invention and maybe your predacity is very obligatory,” the director Radek Kočí describes less visible side of successful business. “Although we succeed at the moment, I go to bed thinking heavily, whether there will be enough work for my employees in a few months´ time. Me and my colleagues have learnt – as we say – “to see at least six months ahead”. In case this period is full of orders, we can breathe easily. But be aware we have been still pulling these one hundred and eighty days forward. For sixteen years. You must see it somewhere. On our grey hair, in our work we have done and we hope will do in the future. Despite the effort, failures or jealousy we still like it,” Radek Kočí concludes.
